The Trees was an English folk rock band that, unlike other folk contemporaries, had a heavier psychedelic edge. The Tress musical alchemy consisted on mixing folk songs, that sounded like they had existed for hundreds of years, with psychedelic passages of fuzzed guitar solos.

The Shocking Blue fue una banda holandesa de rock-pop psicodélico formada en 1967 por Robbie Van Leeuwen, Klassje Van Der Wal, Cornelious Van Der Beek y Ferd De Wilde, quien después sería reemplazado por la cantante Mariska Veres... una mujer de ascendencia germana/ húngara con una voz tan potente que podría ser comparada con Grace Slick de los Jefferson Airplane. Aunque la actitud, voz y presencia de Silk es incomparable, She's a Goddesss!!!
El single más famoso de esta banda fue "Venus", una rola que fue número 1 en los Estados Unidos en tres ocasiones por tres grupos diferentes: Shocking Blue en 1970, Stars on 45 en 1981, y Bananarama en 1986. En México el Vallet Hippie de Sergio Perez también le hizo un cover que aparece dentro del tracklist de una compliación llamada Easy Melodías.
Otro gran tema de esta banda de La Haya es "Love Buzz", un viaje de mistisismo psicodélico cuyos beats sitar-arabescos y letras de obscura dependecia amorosa crean un trance de melosa psilocibina. Un gran track con un impresionante puente que refleja el estado más alto de cualquier trance psicodélico... Pamplemousse Shouts!!!!! (BTW Nirvana también les hizo un cover que aparece dentro del tracklist de Bleach)
The Shocking Blue es una gran y olvidada banda que lejos de la West Coast de San Francisco logró crear un sonido repleto de aromas lisérgicos.
Después de 2 años de ausencia musical, Nicholas Godin y Jean Benoît Dunkel regresan del espacio para deleitarnos con Love 2, un álbum que para mi gusto retoma el sonido de sus dos primeras entregas y sobre todo explota el poder que estos talentosos músicos de “Paname” tienen en vivo*.
El viaje de Love 2 comienza con “Do The Joy”, la obertura ideal para poner sobre la mesa dos cosas importantes para entender esta nueva entrega:
1. Que para este álbum decidieron arreglar y poner en orden la “combi espacial” con la que se fueron de viaje al Moon Safari. Sin olvidar también sus Talkies Walkies para comunicarse.
2. Que decidieron producir este álbum en aquel estudio imaginario del 10,000 Hz Leyend, que por cierto ahora es una realidad y tiene por nombre “Atlas Studio”… seguramente ha de ser uno de los studios más mamones y lujosos del planeta.
Después del aterrizaje bien logrado de “Do The Joy” vienen tracks como “Be A Bee”, “Night Hunter” y “Eat My Beat”, composiciones instrumentales que representan fielmente el sonido que esta banda tiene en vivo: baterías pesadas, improvisaciones moogsianas y grandes líneas de bajo que hacen de sus presentaciones en vivo una fiesta de subidas y bajadas cósmicas.
Otros tracks como “Sing Sang Sung”, “Love”, “Heaven’s Light”, “So Light Is Her Footfall” y “You Can Tell It To Everybody” nos recuerdan el leitmotiv de este par de franceses – “Amour, Imagination et Rêve” – y su afinidad por la recuperación de la chanson française con un toque espacial y meloso.
Last but not least, “Missing The Light Of The Day” y “African Velvet” nos muestran la delicada composición y el toque fino que estos musicos de la Île de France tienen dentro del estudio. Tracks complejos que normalmente llevan al escucha a un viaje de flashbacks melancólicos.
Love 2 es un buen álbum que quizás nunca supere al Moon Safari pero que como cada entrega nueva, vuelve a definir a AIR como una banda que tiene un sonido único y exclusivo.

Rutledge is a young music producer who has worked with artists like Dangermouse, Four Tet and Prefuse 73. He has also released music with Domino Recordings and produced bands like Bloc Party, Late of The Pier, The Kills, Grizzly Bear among others... an indigo musical brat, a fucking genius.
Chris Walmsley has played and recorded drums with Damo Suzuki (CAN), Broadcast, Kelpe & The Oscillation... two great bands from the DC Recordings catalog.
Together they perform a brutal cosmique feast of sound and rhythm... where kraut meets feedback guitars, gamelan mindscapes, Battles-lesque hard drumming and kaleidoscope synthetizers... Pure & Blessed Dense Noise!!!
The Pattern Prism is a great album, faultless and probably one of the most inspirational and intense albums of the year... definitely competing with Fuck Buttons and their mystical "Tarot Sport".
